And so it continues...

And the good news keeps coming....today he was able to tolerate FIVE hours on the CPAP machine. And the best news yet, he was able to stand up on the side of the bed today. He had a lot of help, but he was able to use his hips to help. The physical therapist was very pleased and hopeful that this is the beginning of a health-filled recovery! Keep it up Uncle John. We are all so proud of your accomplishments so far, and we too are hopeful for a full recovery!

* I want to remind everyone who reads this to continue leaving encouraging comments. Aunt Maureen and the girls often read them to John and it gives him a sense of peace and strength to keep fighting.

  1. That is uplifting news indeed. John, we are pulling and praying for you. If we could see you at 10:30 Mass again we'll even put up with the lousy parking at St. Mary's for the joy of it. Marv and Kathy Reitz

I work in a rehab hospital and am well aware of the steps ahead...
Progress...any small progress is always a good sign! Praise God for His faithfulness in helping you carry your Cross.
May God lead you to your Easter for John!

  3. We are all pulling for you, John. You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. Think good thoughts like sitting on the beach and watching the kids enjoy the ocean while we enjoy a cold beer and some great conversation. You are not alone up in that hospital room, know that your friends are with you in spirit and we will do anything to help you get through this, Keep on fightin pal, we love you.

  4. We have been keeping up on all the "ups and downs" (thank you, Bridget) and just want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers every day. Keep on truckin',John....you and Maureen have touched more lives than you will ever know. The world would be a much better place if we just had a few more like you...
    Love to all of you,

  6. The Joy of the Lord is our strength!!!
The joy is evident and the surrender is required. John Piper in his book "The Pleasures of God" states "Grace is the pleasure of God to magnify the worth of God by giving sinners the right and power to delight in God without obscuring the glory of God." He goes on to write what rivets my(Piper) focus in this sentence is that grace aims to magnify God by giving me(Piper) joy in God. Grace is radically and joyfully God-centered. Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart's desire. Our heart's desire is for Uncle John's full recovery and that along the way God will use this "wonderfully terrible" crisis for great good. Our eye is on the summit and Uncle John is is now on this journey. Blessings from the MN Roddys

  7. The Hoffmasters, too, have been following and praying, and, to tell the truth, re-living a good bit of the up's and down's. Rejoicing in the progreses (like standing, no matter how much propping up is needed!) is good for all whose confidence needs a boost. I recall entering the hospital room one day and being greeted with, "I could hold a fork this morning and move my arm enough to get some egg to my own mouth!"
This past Sunday we went to breakfast with friends after Mass. We raised our cups to Drew for his 8th New Birthday and to John Hannan and those he inspires.
Bridget, you write beautifully, conveying not only information, but perspective, as well. Faith and hope abound in your messages. Thank you.

  9. Ay 5:00 mass tonight Mon. John told us that that the good things you do for people will always come back to you. John and Maureen, you have done so many good things for others, that I am sure the Lord is returning those acts of kindness and love by taking care of John. So glad to hear all the good steps you had this week. We will meet at Gordon Biersch one day soon for that cold beer you have been dreaming about. God love you John!

  11. We have been so happy and thankful for all good news we have been hearing not only by reading your blog, but by chasing Gavin down the street. He delivered the great news of you standing up with the biggest smile! We have been praying, thinking of you and your whole family. I have never witnessed a family pull together, have such a strong faith and yet still have a smile for everyone. I am sure your kids are such a true reflection on you and Maureen. Andy and I are here to help you all....anytime!! Your family and faith will get you through all of this. Keep up the good work, and know you have many friends pulling for you and looking forward to you coming home. We love you and think of you all the time!!! Lisa and Andy
